Like charts? If so, then analytical firm Quantic Foundry has you covered. The group released a lengthy report earlier this week titled “Revisiting the Strategy Genre Map: Age, Audience Homogeneity, and the Lasso Effect.”

According to Quantic Foundry’s survey results, culled from 220,000 gamers worldwide, more “exciting” games, such as MOBAs and shooters, tend to appeal to a younger crowd than “strategic” games, like strategy titles. That’s maybe not too much of a surprise, but one of the unusual findings is the range of ages, as seen in the chart above. World of Tanks, with its dark blue dot, draws its players from a larger age range than any other title, while “DotA” — which we’ll interpret as probably meaning “Dota 2” — appears to have the narrowest such range.

Other findings from the survey indicate that the games are almost overwhelmingly skewed toward male players, which doesn’t seem too surprising, and that higher-strategy games tend to have similar audiences when all the factors Quantic Foundry surveyed for were taken into account. You can read the full report here.
