The US Patent and Trademark Office has approved a patent Apple, filed back in 2008, which should prevent sensitive iPhone users from sending or receiving ‘objectionable’ text messages.

The patent, ‘Text-based communication control for personal communication device,’ will provide a wide array of parental controls, reports Patently Apple. The patent is specifically aimed at parents who want to ensure any offensive material or chat is filtered.

The patent could also limit so called ‘Sexting,’ which Wikipedia points out is the act of sending sexually explicit messages or photographs, primarily between mobile phones.

“The text-based communication control application filters incoming and/or outgoing text-based communications based on administrator-defined criteria,” highlights the Apple patent website.

“If the control contains unauthorised text, the control application may alert the user, the administrator or other designated individuals of the presence of such text. The control application may require the user to replace the unauthorised text or may automatically delete the text or the entire communication.”
